July 1, 2021, representatives from youth organisations in Del Carmen, Siargao Islands participated in the closing circle as we end the celebration for World Oceans Month.
As the sun was setting down the horizon, these youth leaders wrote their pledges and their commitment towards ocean conservation. It was then followed by the symbolic lantern-lighting ceremony as they offered their prayers and wishes for humanity and world’s healing.
The activity was graced by LGU Del Carmen dynamic department heads: Ms. Lanie Cagandahan-Lipio of Tourism Office and Ms. Gina Mozo Barquilla of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office. They shared their own stories and experiences about their advocacies toward the environment; and gave inspirational messages for the youth.
On World Oceans Month, may we always be reminded of the importance of the ocean and the effects that an unhealthy ocean will have on us. We need to reconnect with the ocean in a sustainable way to ensure that its benefits can be enjoyed for generations to come.
More than ever before, our ocean needs our help to recover and thrive. Though the ocean can feel removed from our lives, it’s always present within us. The more we honour its presence, the brighter our blue future will be.
HAPPY WORLD OCEANS MONTH!
